A Nature Safaris - as close to nature as possible, without actually camping, to fully appreciate the African experience! This offer is valid for any 14 days of choice between January and December. A fully accommodated, self drive safari with the express purpose of being as close to Nature as possible - yet comfortable and secure. This accommodated nature safari - offered as an independent travel option (self drive), will only be possible with a minimum booking of two guests. It will start in Windhoek, and end in Windhoek 14 days later. En-route you could visit the Etosha National Park, search for the desert Elephants in Damaraland, photograph and enjoy the antics of the Cape fur seals of the Skeleton coast, plus the experience of viewing and climbing the highest sand dunes in the world at Sossusvlei.
This entire journey will be fully accommodated, albeit sometimes in fixed structures, and other times in permanent tents or rustic chalets, affording you the "feel of the African bush" without having to camp. In between, you have the opportunity to "lose yourself" amongst the treasures of the Earth, which could include a visit to the largest mineral crystal cluster, ever unearthed to date. Your Itinerary:
Day 1: Meet the representative of your car hire firm at Namibia's International airport and transfer to a comfortable B and B on the outskirts of Windhoek to relax from the long flight and acclimatize to Namibia. (B and B).
Day 2: After breakfast, travel along the perimeter of the Khomas Hochland (our central highlands), towards the very edge of the Escarpment and experience the vista of the Namib desert at your feet. Descend into the Namib towards your first desert venue - a self catering unit near Sesriem Gorge and Sossusvlei. Late afternoon, you might wish to explore the geologically historic Sesriem Gorge. (Self catering).
Day 3: Wake up at dawn to travel along the Tsauchab River valley towards some of the highest sand dunes in the world at Sossusvlei. Arrive at the first accessible dunes and climb them for view of this pristine wilderness. Return to camp to freshen up before continuing to a comfortable desert guest farm for the night. Should you feel up to it, the owners offer an opportunity for a night Game drive to search out the nocturnal animals of the desert - Not included in quoted price. (B and B).
Day 4: Today you traverse the endless gravel plains of the central Namib towards Namibia's premier holiday town to arrive by mid- to late afternoon. If you are seafood lovers, Swakopmund is it! (Self catering).
Day 5: Entire day at own leisure to browse around the German-colonial shops and architecture; visit places of interest; maybe view the largest mineral crystal cluster ever unearthed to date; laze around on the beach or partake of any of a number of optional activities offered by private operators - Not included in quoted price.
Day 6: An earlier start today to travel on a salt-surfaced road along the coast where you might wish to visit one of the larger Cape Fur Seal colonies along the Skeleton Coast. Swing back into the Interior, to sleep in the shadow of the highest mountain peak in Namibia - the Brandberg, Accommodation tonight is in a permanent tent. (Self catering).
Day 7: An area often referred to as Landscapes of the Soul, is what you will travel through today towards a very rustic Damaraland camping site. You will need most of the afternoon to fully comprehend that you are not dreaming - this is Damaraland! Permanent tents again. (B and B).
Day 8: Entire day to acquaint yourself with your new surroundings. Many activities on offer by the owners, at own cost. (B and B).
Day 9: Depart from Damaraland - albeit reluctantly - to continue towards a Safari camp just outside the Etosha National Park. Accommodation in safaris tents. (B and B).
Day 10: Enter the gates to Etosha as early as possible for a day's Game viewing within the Park, but return to camp before sunset. (B and B).
Day 11: Entire day for a slow wildlife viewing drive, to arrive at the centre rest camp of the Park in time for lunch, should you so wish. Continue towards the historic Fort Namutoni to exit there before sunset and arrive at a bush camp for the night. (B and B).
Day 12: As you depart from the Etosha area today, you might wish to visit the mysterious Lake Otjikoto. To shorten the distance back to Windhoek, stop over at an historic safari lodge en-route. (B and B).
Day 13: Unfortunately, all good things must also come to an end and today you have to return to Windhoek. Not to make the return to civilization too harsh, overnight at a 3-star Hotel on the outskirts of Windhoek. Make sure to get a final view of our sunset on this, your last night in Namibia, Africa. (B and B).
Day 14: Subject to flight departure time, you may have all morning for some last minute shopping or simply browsing the central business district of Windhoek. Transfer to Namibia's International airport to arrive in time for your departure flight - will be coordinated with the car rental representative.
