Experience the coastal and archipelago life in Finland. Departures every Friday from 6 June to 15 August, 2008.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1, Friday: Arrival in Helsinki. Independent transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is free to relax or start exploring the Finnish capital. Overnight at Sokos Torni or similar (no meals included).
Day 2, Saturday: Helsinki. Often referred to as “The Daughter of the Baltic” as well as “The Gate between East and West”, Helsinki with hundreds of little islands making up the archipelago and the past Swedish and Russian influences provide a special environment which gives the traveling guest a unique experience. With more than 80 different museums, Helsinki has museums to suit all tastes. Take the opportunity to experience Market Square with vendors selling traditional market foods and treats as well as handicrafts and souvenirs.
Visit Temppeliaukio Church – The Rock Church – quarried out of the bedrock with its natural stonewalls and magnificent copper tread ceiling, Uspenski Cathedral – the biggest Orthodox Church in the Nordic region - with its thirteen golden onion-shaped domes and many more... Day 3, Sunday: Cruising the archipelago sea and Aland archipelago on M/S Kristina Brahe. Transfer to the pier on your own. Board M/S Kristina Brahe and sail westward through the Archipelago Sea. First stop is the island of Jussarö, which is famous for its lighthouse and iron ore. A guided walking tour of the island is included. Continue your cruise making zigzags through the archipelago heading to the idyllic town of Tammisaari.
Situated on the southernmost point of Finland, Tammisaari is a green town in the archipelago. Enjoy your walking tour of Tammisaari including the well-preserved old town. Head to the open sea upon your departure from Tammisaari late at night. Overnight on board M/S Kristina Brahe. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 4, Monday: Cruising on Board M/S Kristina Brahe. Your first destination is the island of Jurmo, famous for its moraine fields. Situated in the outer archipelago, Jurmo is the largest of a number of islands belonging to the magnificent Salpausselkä ridge, one of the biggest territorial moraines in Northern Europe.
After Jurmo, head to the island of Uto. The most southern inhabited island in Finland, the rugged nature, spectacular landscape and inhabited village community are part of the uniqueness of Uto. Overnight on board M/S Kristina Brahe. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 5, Tuesday: Cruising on board M/S Kristina Brahe. Early morning departure from Uto and head to the island of Kokar. A vital archipelago community in the Aland Archipelago, Kokar has a rich and colorful history. The first inhabitants were sealers who settled at Otterbote approx. 100 B.C. During the 15th century a Franciscan monastery was founded on Hamno.
After leaving Kokar, you will cross Kihti and head to one of the popular destinations in the archipelago the traditional village of Nauvo. A walking tour of Nauvo includes a visit to the gray stone church and see a small exhibition of ships models. Overnight onboard M/S Kristina Brahe. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 6, Wednesday: Disembark in Helsinki. Morning arrival in Helsinki. Breakfast on board before disembarkation. Transfer to your hotel on your own. The rest of the day is at leisure. Overnight accommodation at Sokos Hotel Torni or similar. Includes: (B).
Day 7, Thursday: Departure Helsinki. Breakfast at your hotel. Transfer to the airport on your own. Includes: (B).
