This photographic and/or family safari is only possible with a minimum booking of two Guests. Along this route, experience and photograph the Skeleton Coast; awe-inspiring ruggedness of Damaraland; the world famous Etosha National Park and right up into the emerald green, sub-tropical regions of the Kavango/Caprivi with its abundant animal- and bird life. Can you imagine a greater zoom-effect for a 21-day lens? And that in... The Gem of Africa - Namibia!
Our illustrated, sample itinerary is totally customizable with regard to length of visit, or choices of venue. Fly-ins can also be added - with subsequent price adjustments. No seasons are applicable for this photographic safari, it is available from January to December.
Your Itinerary:
Day 1: Meet your host at Namibia's International airport. Transfer to a small Game lodge on the outskirts of Windhoek to relax from the long flight and acclimatize to Namibia. Experience your first Namibian sunset on a sundowners wildlife viewing drive.
Day 2: Refreshed and breakfasted, you should be ready for the first leg of your photographic safari, towards the Atlantic coastline. If you are seafood lovers - Swakopmund is it!
Day 3: Entire day at own leisure for winding down. View and photograph the German-colonial architecture; visit museums; view the largest mineral crystal cluster unearthed to date - amongst other glittering treasures of the earth; visit the many stores, coffee bars and curio shops, or simply laze on the beach - weather permitting. (Alternatively, you may wish to partake of any of a number of optional adrenaline activities offered privately - or a pleasure flight along the Skeleton Coast.
Day 4: A leisurely breakfast and morning at own leisure. After lunch, continue on a salt-surfaced road along the coast towards Cape Cross - part of the Skeleton Coast. Relax at sunset with a sundowner in hand, viewing the tranquillity of the bay before you.
Day 5: Today will provide a most unusual opportunity for photography as you are whisked away into the Interior of the Northern Namib, past petrified salt lakes towards the Messum Crater - a very ancient fossil site where several artifacts have been found, a site visited by very few Namibians.
Day 6: Returning to the Interior, pass through an old, restored mining town, generally regarded as the gateway to Damaraland! Experience Africa on the banks of the ephemeral Ugab River, in the shadow of the highest mountain peak in Namibia - the Brandberg.
Day 7: Only a short drive today, moving further north into Damaraland. Arrive at a Damaraland lodge in time for lunch. After a short rest, visit and view one of the largest concentrations of ancient Petroglyphs (rock engravings) at Twyfelfontein. End your day with a Nature drive in search of the elusive desert Elephants.
Day 8: If you were unlucky and did not encounter the desert Elephants at either the Brandberg or on the Twyfelfontein Nature drive, you have a third opportunity at your next venue - a small lodge almost on the border of Kaokoland, a paradise for bird watchers and photographers. (11 of Namibia's 14 endemic and near-endemic bird species occur here). After dinner, join your first night Game drive, seeking out the nocturnal animals of Namibia.
Day 9: Start your day with one of the most informative guided nature hikes available. The remainder of the day at own leisure as well as including a day-time wildlife viewing drive, viewing Game from a hide, or simply relaxing in and around a welcome splash pool.
Day 10: This afternoon you will be invited to the homestead of a Cheetah Conservation Farm for a little inter-action with a few semi-tame Cheetahs. Excellent opportunity for really close-up photography.
Day 11: You will bid Damaraland farewell today - albeit reluctantly - to continue towards the world famous Etosha National Park. Arrive at a safari camp about 8 km from the Etosha gate by mid- to late afternoon. If time allows, you may enjoy your first late afternoon Game drive into Etosha.
Day 12: Entire day for wildlife viewing in the section of Etosha as far as the Halali Rest Camp - where you will arrive in time for lunch.
Day 13: After breakfast, enter Etosha for a day trip through the length of the visitors area of the Etosha, to exit at the eastern gate and arrive at your bush camp in time to relax and freshen-up for dinner.
Day 14: Return to Etosha under guidance of a local guide on a full day wildlife viewing, with a picnic lunch included.
Day 15: A relatively early start today as you will be entering the water wonderland of the Kavango/Caprivi Region. En-route, visit the mysterious Lake Otjikoto and stop for a picnic lunch at the largest Meteorite found on earth to date - the Hoba Meteorite. End your day with either your first raft cruise on the Kavango River, or a traditional song and dance welcome.
Day 16: Follow the Kavango River to a safari lodge, situated on the banks of the river, at the last bend before the river empties itself out into the Okavango Delta (Swamps) in Botswana. A sunset boat cruise on the river will offer the ideal tranquillity in which to end your day.
Day 17: A visit to the non-commercialized Mahangu Game Reserve offers Game species not found in Etosha or elsewhere in Namibia, plus a myriad bird life! You may wish to enjoy another boat cruise after your return to the lodge, or relax in or around a welcome swimming pool.
Day 18: Today will be one of the longer hauls of the safari as you have to traverse the entire Kavango region, and exit towards a rustic rest camp. After arrival, relax and freshen up. On short walks on the premises you may encounter from the smallest antelope in Namibia - the Damara Dik-dik - to the largest antelope in the world - the Eland. From your rustic quarters, you may view wildlife visiting the floodlit waterhole, right in camp.
Day 19: A comfortable drive today to arrive at a small mountain lodge in time for a light lunch. Entire afternoon to relax and reminisce on the past 18,5 days, and after dinner, enjoy a final night drive to seek out the nocturnal animals of this specific region.
Day 20: Unfortunately, all good things must also end and you have to return to Windhoek. En-route, enjoy lunch at a small, private Lodge. Not to make the transition from the wilderness to civilization too abrupt, you will sleep at a Game-/guest farm en-route to the airport. End your day with a scenic drive, with a final glimpse of our Namibian sunset on this, your last night in Namibia, Africa.
Day 21: Subject to flight departure time, you may have an entire morning to finish the last few exposures on your film - or space left on your digital memory card. Transfer to Namibia's International airport to arrive in time for your departure flight.
