A 21-day Senior's adventure safari in The Gem of Africa - Namibia! Experience both the adventure and the magic of Africa - in luxury! Should only YOUNG people have all the fun? After all, most of us feel full of life and young at heart. We sometimes just happen to be in slightly less co-operative bodies! Don't let that stop you! Here's an opportunity - use it! A 21- day, ultra-luxury African adventure. Come on, treat yourself to something completely different, private and off the beaten track. Speak about it to friends and relatives, convince them, you need to share both the costs and the adventure in a small group - it's much more fun! Whether you decide on an all-female or all-male special experience, or whether you prefer to travel as couples, the choice is yours - just do it! For those who do not have a full 21-days available, this safari is also split into a northern- and southern variation - each of 14 days duration. (These safaris are obviously not restricted only to seniors).
During this safari you will one morning be woken before sunrise for The Most Unforgettable Experience Of A Lifetime! In the cool, pre-dawn air, ascend in a hot-air balloon and silently drift high above the immensity of the Namib Desert. From this exclusive vantage point, the rising sun paints an endless vista of shadow and light over an ocean of sand dunes and mountains. After about an hour of silently riding the air, descend and celebrate this unique event with a full champagne breakfast in the middle of the desert; you will discover the origin of the name Skeleton Coast, as you fly low over the coastline with its ship-wreck graveyard and Cape Fur Seals, trapped between two "oceans", the Atlantic water ocean, and the Namib desert sand dune ocean; join an excursion into the "hinterland" to explore the Lichen fields and visit an ancient crater and petrified salt lagoon; view the changing landscape from savannah plains through desert steppe to the Atlantic coast line in comfort, through the huge windows of a luxury train; drive out into the last true wilderness area of Africa in search of the famous desert Elephants; experience the soothing luxury of a sulfur-free, non-commercialized, natural mineral spring in the wilderness.
Your Itinerary
Day 1: Meet your host at Namibia's International airport. Flight schedule will determine whether you either transfer to a guest farm near the edge of the escarpment, or to a 4-star Hotel in Windhoek. Relax from the long flight and acclimatize to Namibia.
Day 2: After a short stop at the edge of the escarpment, descend into the Namib and arrive at your Moroccan-styled tented camp in time to freshen up and have dinner, served alfresco on a terrace, with paraffin/kerosene lamps or candles lit after sunset. Dine, while viewing desert wildlife quenching their thirst at a floodlit waterhole.
Day 3: Early start, to drive out to Sossusvlei where you may view, and climb, some of the highest sand dunes in the world. Brunch under age-old Camelthorn trees before returning to your lodge. Late afternoon, explore the geologically, historic Sesriem gorge.
Day 4: Your hot-air balloon flight this morning, after which you either move further south to a desert Mountain lodge, or cross over from the Namib desert in the west, to the Kalahari desert in the east. (Again, determined by your prevailing flight schedule).
Day 5: Once in the east, you will join a sundowners drive through the orange-red, linear sand dunes of the Kalahari - a sunset you will remember forever!
Day 6: Feel the crisp morning air as you join an early morning scenic drive and return in time to freshen up for lunch. A leisurely afternoon of viewing Game from a hide and meeting some of our big cats on a Cheetah drive.
Day 7: For those who are interested, a very informative, guided nature hike is available before breakfast. Return to freshen up and collect your luggage for a leisurely return to Windhoek and a 4-star Hotel.
Day 8: Entire morning at own leisure to explore the central business district and street markets in Windhoek. Arrive at Windhoek's railway station in time to board the Desert Express - Namibia's luxury train - for another unforgettable journey.
Day 9: Be welcomed at Swakopmund station by your host and stop-over at a coffee shop for some mid-morning tea/coffee before transferring to an old Railway station, converted into a luxury, 4-star Hotel. Entire rest of the day at own leisure to view German-colonial architecture; visit museums; browse the shops & stores; view the largest mineral crystal cluster ever unearthed to date, or simply relax on the beach or enjoy a siesta.
Day 10: An early breakfast before boarding a light aircraft for a day excursion over the Brandberg (highest mountain peak in Namibia), up to Opuwo where you will meet the ochre-colored Ova-Himba nomads - and fly back along the notorious Skeleton Coast of Namibia.
Day 11: Travel on a salt-surfaced road along the coast towards Cape Cross where you will visit the Cape Fur Seals that you saw from the air - real close up! Join an excursion to view an ancient, petrified salt lagoon.
Day 12: Continue into Damara land and arrive at a secluded Mountain Lodge in time for lunch and where you are afforded a 360° view of Damara land.
Days 13 and 14: You are just over the half-way mark and deserve a rest from traveling. For the next two days you will remain in this wilderness area, where you shall be pampered and treated at the most unlikely venue. A lodge offering Nature walks and hikes; game drives; a cool swimming pool, as well as a Sulfur-free, natural mineral water wallow (± 38° C); muscle balancing massages in Aromatherapy and Reflexology. (The wellness treatment is not included in the safari price, as it is an individual preference. Lodge prices for this treatment between N$200 - N$350).
Day 15: Depart from Damara land today - albeit reluctantly - and travel towards the Etosha National Park. Arrive at a luxury mountain lodge not too far from Etosha and relax until you join a late afternoon game drive.
Day 16: Enter the Etosha Park for a day-long game viewing drive with lunch en-route at one of the rest camps. Exit Etosha at the eastern end to arrive at your night's accommodation - a tented bush camp just outside Etosha.
Day 17: While in the care of the local guides, enter Etosha National Park very early for Game viewing in the Fort Namutoni area. After seeking out the diminutive Damara Dik-dik, return to your tented bush camp for dinner.
Day 18: While en-route, outside Etosha, visit the mysterious Lake Otjikoto. Arrive at a luxury lodge on the African savanna in time to freshen up for a Game drive before dinner.
Day 19: After a leisurely breakfast, and an early lunch at a small town lodge, arrive at the home of the Africa Foundation in time for mid-afternoon tea/coffee. Here, research and conservation of the feline species of the wildlife in Namibia take place. All activities on offer here, are included.
Day 20: Be woken at sunrise for some home-baked muffins and tea/coffee in the Lion Lapa, before joining a Cheetah trail. Return to the lodge for a scrumptious brunch before your journey back to Windhoek. Arrive mid- to late afternoon and settle into an early 19th century, German castle. Dine with the skyline of Windhoek at your feet, while viewing the setting sun, being invited into the folds of the distant Khomas Hochland on the horizon. Relax, and enjoy this, your last night in Namibia, Africa!
Day 21: Subject to flight departure time, the entire morning for a last browse around the central business district of the City. Transfer to Namibia's International airport to arrive in time for your departure flight.
