Enjoy the heart of the wilderness, yet relax in the comforts of Sperry Chalet. The Chalet has a dining room with sit-down dining and wait staff and the rooms are private. Our guides will point out the natural wonders, from mountain goats to glacier lilies, which explain why Glacier National Park is known as the Crown of the Continent.

You'll be able to enjoy all aspects of traveling in the backcountry, since the first day getting to Sperry Chalet is spent on horseback followed by spectacular day hikes.

Tour Itinerary:

Day 1 - 7:00 meet at our satellite office in West Glacier. Today we go for a morning horse ride, allowing us to take in the views as we arrive at Sperry Chalet. The ride up to Sperry is about 6.5 miles. In the afternoon, we will day hike to Lincoln Pass, where we will enjoy views of Mt. Jackson, one of the largest peaks in the park. The hike to Lincoln Pass and back is a beautiful 2 mile hike.

Day 2 - Day hike up to Comeau Pass and Sperry Glacier. Here we will have the opportunity to view the glaciated, scoured effects of Sperry Glacier and to touch the glacier itself. The trail to Comeau Pass rises 1600 feet over 2.5 miles making it a challenging hike, but well worth the effort.

Day 3 - Today we hike back down to Lake McDonald for 6.5 miles through a diverse cedar forest. Return by 4 pm to West Glacier. Weather and Clothing: The weather in Glacier is very unpredictable. The average temperature in July and August may range from 20 to 80 degrees F at the Chalet. Keep in mind that the evenings are usually cool throughout the summer and warm clothing is needed. Sudden rain, snow and thunderstorms are common and you must be prepared for mountain travel. We recommend at a minimum you have: polypropylene long underwear top and bottoms, a polar fleece jacket, wind and rain pant and jacket and warm hat and gloves. Synthetic layers provide the best performance to avoid hypothermia and the elements.

Notes:
Airfare is not included in the tour price.
