Our 3 day Prairie Reef trips are designed for the family or person who wants to enjoy a wilderness experience but may not have the time for a 5 to 7 day trip. This trip offers horseback riding, fishing, hopeful wildlife sightings, beautiful scenery and the opportunity to see the view from Prairie Reef Lookout. One of the most spectacular places in the Bob Marshall Wilderness. We enter the wilderness on these trips from the Benchmark trailhead.
Our first day is a 9 mile ride to our campsite on the West Fork of the Sun River. The first 5 miles of the ride is mostly in thick timber of lodge pole pine, as we go down the South Fork of the Sun River. After crossing the pack bridge at the West Fork we ride through many gorgeous open meadows as we work our way up the West Fork to camp. Once in camp guests can relax and enjoy the quiet or go fishing or swimming in the West Fork or take a hike up Reef Creek in search of wildlife or wildflowers.
Day 2 is the ride up to Prairie Reef Lookout. This is approximately a 3 hour ride up. This lookout is usually manned with a Forest Service employee. The view from there is indescribable with words. Parts of the Chinese Wall are visible from here as well as a big portion of the Bob Marshall Wilderness. The ride off the lookout takes around 2 ½ hours.
Day 3 then would be the ride out. We take the same route out as we took going in. It takes about 3 hours. We are usually the trailhead by mid day.

A Down Payment of half the total cost will give you a preliminary reservation.
These payments are non-refundable except in the case of a medical crisis that prevents your coming, in which case we will carry your payments for a year.
