Mongolia is one of the few countries that has yaks. Mongolian yaks are wonderful animals that usually live in the northern mountainous area. They are very useful and good animals. Not like their distant relative Mongolian cows, yaks are not lazy. Yaks are used widely in the country and used for riding, loading, milking and meat etc.
Gun Galuut is a breathtaking nature reserve, which is home for some endangered wildlife species including wild mountain sheep Argali, White crane, White naped crane, Whooper swan, Black stork, Blue Heron, White Crane. The reserve is a great protected paradise - a marvelous combination of pristine waterfronts situated amongst majestic mountains with unique wildlife, beautiful native flowers and lovely lakes with rare water birds.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1:
Meet us, then drive to a nomadic family for 138 km (120 km on paved road) to the east, welcome lunch with the hosts, introduction to the nomadic lifestyle, orientation with the area, pack the yak cart with your baggage and transfer to tourist ger camp, dinner and overnight there.
Day 2:
After breakfast yak cart ride to the mountain Baits, where the Argali-wild sheep live for 15 km. See the wild sheep and other wild animals including marmot, deer, gazelle, fox and steppe fox and many more (If lucky, wolf…). In the evening get back to the tourist ger camp. Dinner and overnight there.
Day 3:
After breakfast ride your yak cart again to Lake Ayaga and Lake Ikh-Gun Galuut for 10 km, bird watching, see birds- some of them are endangered rare birds including "White Cranes, Hooded Cranes, Swan Goose, Black Stork and Whooper Swans along with many other species. Get back to the tourist ger camp. Dinner and drive back to UB.
