Onon and Balj rivers in the north eastern Mongolia are the home for 45 species of fish including the giant salmonid Taimen and many more - Pike, Lenok, Trout, Sturgeon, Grayling, Redfin, Carp, Sawbelly, Powan and many more. The fishery is excellent and the place itself is fishermen's paradise in the middle of nowhere. The stunning beauty of the Khan Khentii Mountains will make your trip unforgettably wonderful, too. This trip will take you to Onon and Balj Rivers and its amazing pools with the mighty Taimen lay with other fish just waiting to be caught.
The trip facility is the best: good tents, local friendly guides and staff support. During the trip you will be just eating, resting and fishing. If you are a fisherman, and want to catch big Taimen, this is a destination definitely not to be missed!!!
The Onon-Balj River Basin forms a unique and inter characteristic geographical environment by entering deep to the south along the Siberian forest, taiga and mountains from the northern part of Mongolia, and from the south to the north through arid desert-steppe and valleys of Central Asia. The rivers have about 45 species of fish in them, including the Taimen, Pike, Perch, Trout, Gudgeon, Minnows, Sculpin, Whitefish, Dace, Stone loach, Sawbelly and so on.
At one time, the world’s largest salmonid, the Taimen, lived in the rivers between Germany and the Pacific coast of Russia. Today, after centuries of poaching, pollution, and habitat destruction, the Taimen are making their last stand in Mongolia. Reaching weights of 200 pounds, the Taimen are one of the world’s premier freshwater sports fishes. The Onon and Balj rivers have the Taimen in their waters and this trip gives you a wonderful opportunity to encounter this mighty salmonid with much ease and without driving for hours and taking flights to the north.
Night Fishing: Fishing at nights is a real challenge for fishermen. The River Kherlen is an ideal place for night fishing as it is a quiet, steppe river. You will surely like the new amazing experience of the fishing at nights for Taimen and other fish.
