Your Itinerary
Day 1:
Paramaribo - Wasyabo:
In the morning we are transfered to the airport Zorg en Hoop on the outskirts of Paramaribo. There we get on a small plane for a one and a half hour flight to the Amerindian village Wasyabo. During the flight we get a good impression of the vastness and remoteness of the rainforests of the Guianas which stretches on all sides as far as the eye can see during most of the flight. When we touch down on grass of the small airstrip at Wasyabo in the immediate vicinity of the village it becomes more and more obvious what our position is, in the middle of the Amazon rainforest.
Wasyabo to Cawfall or Alaman Fadon or Bigi Boktu:
We board the korjaal (dugout canoe) for our journey further upstream. As soon as we have boarded and the luggage is packed safely the outboard engines are started and we leave Wasyabo for Cawfall. The first section of about two hours to the mouth of the Kabalebo, a tributary of the Corantyne is free of rocks. Just before we get to the Kabalebo we see the first sign of rocks. After the Kabalebo the boat slows down because of the many rocks in the river. We take our lunch as we go. Stopping when we meet something of special interest.

Day 2:
Cawfall to Wonotobo:
From Cawfall, Alaman Fadon or Bigi Boktu depending on the location reached an early departure for the journey to the Wonotobo. The river is quite clear to travel at some places and at others one has to be very aware of treacherous rocks. At some places, especially the area before Powisi Island the river is a true labyrinth of islands and rapids. Much of the progress depends on the waterlevel. Usually approaching Wonotobo will be heralded by foam floating on the water. When approaching the rapids one can almost feel their presence even though the rapids are well concealed.
