This adventure starts with a drive to the float plane base and a flight into Artery Lake. A short paddle brings us to one of Canada's finest aboriginal pictograph sites. We'll marvel at cascading waterfalls, run rapids and paddle past sheer 2.5 billion year old Precambrian shield cliffs as we descend the Bloodvein River. The river flows through several lakes including rugged Stonehouse Lake during the first days of our journey. We continue to paddle through the heart of Atikaki Wilderness Park's Woodland Caribou breeding grounds as the river squeezes through canyons on its way to Lake Winnipeg. We will be treated to a traditional meal and will participate in a Sweat Lodge ceremony at the Bloodvein First Nation. Upon reaching Lake Winnipeg, we'll be ferried past the limestone cliffs and expansive vistas of one of Canada's most beautiful and largest lakes.
