The Pigeon River trip starts with a drive from Winnipeg to the floatplane base. The Pigeon flows through a rugged Precambrian Shield landscape dotted by pristine lakes. It is perhaps Manitoba's best accessible whitewater river with over 50 rapids and some spectacular falls. The rapids are usually class 2-4 (many big water class 3) with 30 rapids concentrated in a 40 Km long canyon. This whitewater section has been compared with Colorado's best whitewater rivers. We move through this area slowly as there are many rapids that can be run after a closer look.

Outfitting canoes with sprayskirts allows us to comfortably and safely shoot rapids that would otherwise be a very wet ride or require portaging. Of course rapids are not the only reason to consider the Pigeon River. Being infrequently traveled there is little chance of encountering other canoeists. The river meanders through quiet scenic lakes and drops over inspiring waterfalls as it flows to Lake Winnipeg. This trip ends with a flight to Matheson Island by air charter.

Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Drive from Winnipeg to the float plane base and fly into the Pigeon River by float plane. Includes: (L), (D).
