The Rwenzori Mountains lie along the western border of Uganda and rise to a height of 5,100 meters. The legendary 'Mountains of the Moon', as they are called, offers a World Heritage Site - and the incomparably, beautiful, mist-shrouded peaks provide a unique backdrop to one of our magnificent national parks. The diverse fauna includes Elephant, Genet, Chimpanzee, Golden Cat, Forest Hog, Rock Hyrax, Sitatunga, Mongoose, Duiker, Vervet, Monkey and the Rwenzori Colobus monkey.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Today, we will leave the high behind the sights and sounds of the ever-busy Kampal city for the countryside town of Kasese. Our drive shall take us through some of the magnificent panoramic landscapes dominated by breath-taking vistas, fresh waters, flora and fauna, all of which await you for an incredible view. Dinner and overnight at a hotel in Kasese.
Day 2: Following an early breakfast, we will move to base of our climb at the Rwenzori Mountains National Park. Here we will hire the climbing gears and we will also meet our porters and the mountain guide from this base. Start hiking from the park headquarters before noon to avoid being on the trail before dark. On this part of the trail we do expect to hear Chimpanzees and we may also see black and white Colobus and blue Monkeys. Have rest, dinner and overnight at Nyabitaba hut.
Day 3: After an early breakfast, we shall leave Nyabitaba Hut, following the trail with our guide westwards for a half a kilometer to Kurt Bridge, where we expect to have a wonderful view of Bujuku and Mubuku rivers. After the bridge, the trail leading us through the bamboo forest is muddy and slippery and above all leads us to an area of slippery boulder that hikers consider the most difficult though leaves hikers with wonderful memories. Rest, dinner and overnight at Nyamuleju Hut.
Day 4: We will leave from Nyamuleju Hut after an early breakfast and move on the trail for an hour before reaching John Matte hut where most of the hikers feel privileged having reached this altitude of 5110 meters. Up here everything is awesome and very unusual with a grand view of the other things beneath us.
Day 5: Today, we will descend after breakfast through Nyabitaba while catching glimpse of brilliantly colored Rwenzori Turaco an endemic bird species in this part of Uganda. We will then proceed on with the journey to Kampala arriving here in the evening to end our tour.
