Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: TBA - Chengdu. Welcome to Chengdu! Chengdu is famous for its three unique characteristics, which is 'Heavenly Scenery', 'Bashu (one title of Sichuan) Culture' and 'Hometown of Pandas'. Upon arrival in Chengdu, we will be met at the airport and transferred to the hotel. The rest of the day is on our own to explore the city.
Day 2: Chengdu. We will all meet in the lobby of the hotel and drive about 10 km to Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Research Institute. Giant Panda Breeding Research Institute is an excellent recreational area and a highlight of any visit to Chengdu. Endangered species such as giant pandas, red pandas, and black-necked cranes reproduce well at the Research Base.
For lunch we'll sample some delicious fare in a local restaurant. Then visit the Thatched Cottage of Du Fu (Dufu caotang). To venerate one of China's most famous poets, Dufu, people established gardens and temples from the Northern Song Dynasty (960 - 1127). Covering an area of 16 hectares, the exhibits here include a brief account of Dufu's life and some of his original calligraphy, wood carvings, couplets and also many of Du Fu's finest works with foreign translations.
We will also pay a visit to Wang Jiang Lou Park, a historic site in memory of Xuetao, a female poet of the Tang Dynasty. The park has been designated as a protected Monument in national province since June 2006. Includes: (B, L)
Day 3: Chengdu - Leshan - Emei City. Get up early in the morning and drive about 160 km to Leshan to visit Leshan Giant Buddha, the largest sculpture of the Buddha to be found in the world. Standing 71 meters tall, the Leshan Giant Buddha depicts a seated Maitreya Buddha with his hands resting on his knees. His shoulders are twenty-eight meters wide and his smallest toenail is large enough to accommodate a seated person. After a tour of Leshan Giant Buddha site, we continue driving to Emei City. Day 4: Mount Emei - Chengdu. We begin the day with a visit to Mount Emei, one of the four sacred places for Buddhists in China. Upon arrival at the parking lot, we change the cable car to the mountain, and then visit the Baoguo Temple, the Wannian Temple and other nature scenic and temples dispersed over the mount. Standing on the top of it, we can get a panoramic view of snowy mountains in the west and the vast plain in the east. The Mount Emei Scenic Area, including Leshan Giant Buddha Scenic Area has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996. After lunch, we take the cable car down the mount, and drive back to Chengdu city. Includes: (B, L)
Day 5: Chengdu - TBA. The tour guide will transfer us to the airport and help us board the plane to our next destination. Our wonderful Panda tour ends. Includes: (B)
