The vastest tour in Carpathians. It is recommended for all kind of bikes, no special skills needed. Please bring all-weather equipment. There will be optional or scheduled activities like hiking, trekking, caving, horseback riding, traditional events etc. That’s why guided version is better.
The tour on the eastern side of the Carpathians is one of the vastest and more charming, you can experience in these mountains. Come to join it.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Relax before the big adventure. After you arrive in Covasna, we shall start a relaxing ride. Take your time at Reci lake (there had been shot Kidman’s Cold Mountain), taste mineral waters of Covasna, take a look at Devil’s lake, take a ride to Comando village, take a good meal and a big sleep at one of our chalets.
Day 2: 300 km. Salt, forests, vertical walls. Riding trough the Oitoz valley you reach the Tg. Ocna salt mine, imposing with its immensity. Take a tour to the beautiful lake of Poiana Uzului, run trough the hills of Gyimes to arrive in the heart of Szeklerland, Csik. The big surprise of the day is only beginning when you arrive to Bicaz Canyon and the Bloody (red) Lake. The day ends here.
Day 3: 260 km. The land of popes. Ride along the immense Izvorul Muntelui lake, you reach the land of the ancient monasteries of Moldova (Neamt, Voronet etc), they are unique in Europe because of exterior mural pictures. Returning on Dorna-Vatra Corridor is closing the day.
Day 4: 250 km. Maramuresh county. Riding trough old authentic villages with tall wooden churches belonging to UNESCO heritage, we arrive in happy cemetery of Sapanta, than way back you can see how they make wood chains from one piece of wood, or ceramics, the day ends at Salistea where you can put on the traditional dress of the locals and eat a good dinner of local specific.
Day 5: 260 km Another salted day. At the beginning your journey is “salted” by the curves down the Bistrita river, than a fast ride trough the mountains and arrive to salt canyon of Praid and Sovata (here is Europe's biggest salted lake). Enjoy the evening here.
Day 6: 230 km. Szekler countryside, good food, friendly people, fantastic sights. After you discovered this people and their lifestyle, spend the rest of day at Saint Anna Lake (the most beautiful crater lake in Europe, carnivore plants on its shore) indulge yourself with the best food ever eaten, at Balvanyos fortress. Day ends with farewell party.
