There are few places where you meet such a varied nature in just an hour walk. This easy walk does require proper shoes and a little bit of condition, but is essentially suitable for all. We go in a low pace and take our time to watch around us: beautiful flowers and trees, rare predator birds, crabs and more wildlife. The beauty of this natural park is that we rarely meet people: The Robinson Crusoe Experience.
We have plenty of time to stop for drinks & snacks, snorkeling and swimming. If our fisherman was lucky to catch fresh bay fish or lobster, than that’s lunch, in addition to barbecued chicken, vegetable rice and fruits. In your complementary backpack you carry frozen water, juice and/or rum punch. You can return after lunch on your own (massage, ocean kayak maybe) or join the guide to find some fresh coconuts; enjoy the beach.
After a few minutes we look back and see the villas, scattered over the hill with the windmill proudly at the right. We continue over easy trails and enjoy great ocean and beach views. You will be stunned by the variety of nature even after the hike barely started.
Soon we enter the jungle and enjoy well manicured trails with occasional climbs. As we are in the rain forest the temperature is agreeable.
In no-time we reach the first three beaches. As it is high tide, we need to run while the waves backed up. At 10 am the sky clears up.
We continue over forest trails with the occasional help of our guide’s cutlass to clear the path. We enjoy varied and beautiful scenery.
Fresh Coconut juice is a real thirst quencher and your guide is more than happy to provide you with “the real thing”. A very rare experience!
The cutlass is used for many purposes by the locals including preparing a coconut. “Don’t leave home without it” certainly applies here.
After passing the 8th beach and continued gorgeous ocean and beach views we discover a fisherman’s workplace on a small beach.
These pictures demonstrate the simple life most people lead. However, we see more happier people here than in Western hemispheres...
On the next beach we jump over a shallow river. We are still overwhelmed by the abundance of coconut palms and variety in nature.
One picture-pretty beach after the other, this is already the 10th beach. After a forest walk we enjoy breathtaking ocean and beach views.
The higher we reach, the more majestic the views get. While hiking we see a variety of tropical plants, birds, butterflies and other wildlife.
When approaching the waterfalls the vegetation gets more lush and very green, even though it is dry season when we took these photos.
Mount Carmel is one of our favorite island waterfalls and is a great place to end the tour with a refreshing natural shower and cool swim.
Nothing beats fresh mango, straight from the (wild) trees. Locals were very friendly and encouraged us to try their local foods (Oil Down)
After the tour we returned to Paradise Bay by local bus, including Soca music, which took 15 minutes. The bottom right photo shows the ambiance we would have experienced if we would have taken our Happy Hour at the waterfalls instead of at the resort.
