Day One
Greeted at Glasgow Airport and head north over the back roads towards the Rest and Be Thankful. We stop for a photo opportunity and continue on to the town of Inveraray. Visit the beautiful Inveraray Castle, home of the Campbell Clan and the Duke of Argyll. Enjoy lunch in this quaint town with time to wander before we head to our Country House Hotel outside of Oban. Dinner. Taychreggan Country House Hotel. (D)
Day Two
Day trip south to the historical hill fort of Dunadd, where the history of Scotland began, with commanding views over the haunted glens. See the standing stones of the haunted valley of Kilmartin Glen and visit the museum. We continue north to Oban and tour the local Oban Single Malt Distillery with free time to shop, explore or take a short boat ride to Seal Island (not inc). Early Dinner in town and return to Hotel. Day Three
After breakfast we head North to Castle Stalker view, where we stop at a quaint shop which has commanding views over Castle Stalker, sitting out on an islet on its own small island. We continue on past Glencoe, where the MacDonald’s were slaughtered in their beds in 1692, we stop for photos (we do this often) followed by yet another short stop at Neptune’s Staircase on the Caledonian Canal. We have lunch in the small fishing village of Mallaig before taking the mid afternoon ferry to Skye. Overnight Portee. Dinner on own. (B)
Day Four
We take a boat ride around the Isle of Skye, viewing some of the wonderful scenery, then we have lunch at a wonderful local restaurant. Next a tour of Dunvegan Castle, home of the McLeod Clan and site of the Fairy Flag, drive past the Old Man of Storr and Kilt Rock. Overnight Portree. (B)
Day Five
Museum of Highland Life showing life on the island in years gone by. Stop at quaint artisan shops along the way. Catch the ferry to the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides. Visit the Seallam visitor centre, the foremost genealogy centre for the Western Isles. Overnight at Hotel Hebrides, Isle of Harris. (B) (D)
Day Six
Early departure for Leverburgh and Isle of Harris. Take boat out 50 miles to the uninhabited Outer Hebridean island of St Kilda (weather permitting), the National Trust run island that had all inhabitants removed in the 1930s. Explore this unique, remote and not often visited island before we head back to Harris in the early evening. Overnight at Hotel Hebrides, Isle of Harris.
Day Seven
If weather didn’t permit us to go to St Kilda on the previous day and we swapped our days around we will now go to St Kilda otherwise we will do this: After breakfast we head north to the Island of Lewis and visit the world famous Callanais standing stones. Continue on to the Blackhouse village of Gearrannan were we see life as it used to be on these remote islands. We then continue on to the Blackhouse of Arnol before we return to Tarbet where we stop at the Harris Tweed Shop and our hotel. Dinner on own. (B)
Day Eight
Morning to explore the town of Stornoway. Meet for the 12:40 Caledonian McBrayne ferry back to the mainland, to the port of Ullapool, on the northern west coast of Scotland. Lunch either prior to getting on the ferry or on the ferry. At Ullapool we head north through some truly stunning scenery to ourhotel in Durness. MacKays Restaurant with Rooms, Durness. (D)
Day Nine
After breakfast we stop at Smoo Caves and continue along the very northern coast of Scotland. Continue on to Scrabster, where we catch the 1:15 ferry to the Orkney Isles. Lunch onboard the ferry ride. (not inc). In Orkney we visit the most Northern of Distilleries, Highland Park. Overnight Orkney, at Lynnfield House, Kirkwall. (B) (D)
Day Ten
Explore the northern island chain of the Orkney islands including a visit to the Italian Chapel, Skara Brae archealogical site, the standing stones of the Ring of Brodgar, the mystical Mae’s Howe and a drive by the famous Churchill barriers. Great historical sites on Orkney, not to mention the best ice cream in the world!!! Overnight Orkney. Dinner on own.
Day Eleven
Mid morning ferry back to the mainland and head south towards Inverness. First stop is the small Clan Gunn Museum, with stories of the Highland Clearances. Continue south to visit Dunrobin Castle at Golspie, home of the Duke of Sutherland. Then south to Inverness where we check into Culloden House Hotel, for the next two nights. (D)
Day Twelve
After breakfast we meet Culloden Ghost at The Battlefield. Culloden battlefield is the site of the last land battle on british soil in 1746. Free afternoon to explore the city of Inverness with its wonderful shopping, kilt makers and artisan shops. Dinner on own. (B)
Day Thirteen
After breakfast we drive down south to St Andrews with free time to explore this historical Home of Golf. See historical ruined St. Andrews castle and the St. Andrews cathedral. Head to the Old Course Practice range (subject to availability) and have fun hitting balls at the range, with the views of the Old Course 18th Hole. Continue south to Edinburgh and check into hotel. Tonight, you attend the 9pm showing of the Edinburgh Military Tattoo at the Castle Esplanade. Overnight Edinburgh. (B)
Day Fourteen
After breakfast you have a free day to explore the city, visit Edinburgh castle (inc.), Holyrood Palace or the new Parliament buildings. Take an underground haunted tour of Mary Kings Close, do some shopping on Princes Street or George Street or take advantage of all the free museums in this exciting capital city. We depart mid afternoon for Rosslyn Chapel to tour this beautiful historical Collegiate Church of St Matthew and it’s interesting carvings, mentioned in the book The Da Vinci Code. We then head to Glasgow to our hotel for the evening, Hotel Du Vin at One Devonshire Gardens, a unique Boutique Hotel. Dinner on own. (B)
Day Fifteen
Day to explore this busy city on your own, (no coach available) possibly Glasgow Cathedral, The Provands Lordship which is the oldest house in Glasgow, the Famous Burrell Collection, the Piping Center or the Tennemant House or just shop in one of the fabulous shopping centers. (Entry fees not inc) Overnight at Hotel du Vin at One Devonshire Gardens. Final Night Dinner. (B) (D)
Day Sixteen
After breakfast, morning transfer back to Glasgow airport for flights home. (B)
