Ten miles off the coast of Portsmouth, NH, amidst a group of nine rocky islands known as the Isles of Shoals, lays Star Island. The island, first referenced in 1651, was named by sailors because the island's points stretch out in all directions like flashes of a distant star. Fishermen are believed to have stopped here as early as 1614, before New England was opened for settlement.
The main building on this 40-acre island, The Oceanic House, is over 100 years old and is where we will be staying. Artists of all types have been attracted to the island, including Nathaniel Hawthorne.
As always, writers of all skill levels and genres are welcome. From novice to published writer, you will benefit from the input of your peers, from the comments and handouts of the director, and from the relaxing, creative environment.
From prompts provided, we will write and share from the wide veranda of the Oceanic, the gazebo, the small stone chapel, the library, on the rocks, or other areas on the island. Come with a blank notebook, a pen, a mind ready to be opened, your overnight bag and be prepared to leave rejuvenated and ready to write some more.
"Hotel Rooms" are, in fact, cottages. They are located to the left of the Oceanic Hotel. Gosport is the name of the left-hand wing of the Oceanic.

Dale Slongwhite is certified in the Amherst Writers and Artists Method (AWA) as described in the book Writing Alone and With Others by Pat Schneider and a member of PEN New England.

From time to time, we offer a free evening workshop for those who have shown interest in order for them to experience what the workshop is like.

Director Dale Slongwhite holds a B.A. in Communications from Atlantic Union College. She is prepared to share the answers with workshop attendees.
