The Valley of the Kings (Arabic: Wadi el-Muluk, also known as Biban el-Moluk, the "Gates of the Kings")) is an Egyptian archaeological locality in the hills immediately behind the West Bank of Luxor. As such, it is one of the most remarkable archaeological destinations in the world - the burial place of most of the pharaohs of Egypt of the New Kingdom period.
Deir el-Bahari, literally meaning, The Northern Monastery is a complex of mortuary temples and tombs located on the west bank of the Nile, opposite the city of Luxor, Egypt.
The first monument built at the site was the mortuary temple of Mentuhotep II of the Eleventh dynasty. The Colossi of Memnon (known to locals as el-Colossat, or es-Salamat) are two massive stone statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III. For the past 3400 years they have stood in the Theban necropolis, across the River Nile from the modern city of Luxor.
