We also have a third dive center on the South Coast of Puerto Rico at the Copamarina Resort in Guánica- it is a 2 hour drive from the metro and at this time we do not offer transportation. Here we have awesome wall diving (the wall runs parallel to our coast for 22 miles) ranging in depth from 45 feet to crush depth.
Visibility here is almost always excellent as this is the "dry" side of Puerto Rico. This area is good for intermediate to advanced divers. Travel time to the dive sites is approx 20 minutes - add another 15/30 minutes to our outermost identified sites further along the wall.
Nothing compares to the "weightless" exhilaration of breathing underwater. Only a diver knows the feeling! The PADI Discover Scuba Diving program lets you experience the thrill of diving under the supervision of a PADI Instructor. During your adventure, you'll master some basic concepts and scuba skills before heading off on an open water dive. Your open water dive takes you as deep as 12 meters/40 feet! (Of course this depends on where you dive.)
When you Discover Scuba Diving, You Discover - Excitement and Adventure - Freedom and Serenity. The Discover Scuba Diving experience is a great way to get a head start on your PADI Scuba Diver or Open Water Diver certification. That's because the skills you complete during your adventure may be credited towards these certification levels.
All you have to do is complete a Student Diver Record and Referral Form, which documents your achievement, and bring it to any PADI Dive Center or Resort to continue where you left off. To participate in the Discover Scuba Diving experience, you must be at least 10 years old.
* Dive Trips & Courses:
- The Wall: One mile off-shore, the continental shelf drops off, creating a spectacular and dramatic marine Wall 22-miles long, the Caribbean's newest world-class dive destination. This spectacular dive Wall has a series of slopes and sheer drop-offs that start at 30 feet to 120 feet before disappearing into a 2,000-foot drop, well beyond diver depths.
- The Aquarium: Minutes from the beach by boat, The Aquarium offers shallow dives of 50 feet or less and features three distinct ecosystems. A sandy bottom is home to eels, hermit crabs and anemones. Second, a large head system (one head is estimated to be over 1,000 years old) is home to a variety of small fish, anemones, worms, clams, and other marine life. The third system is a coral system comprised of species of soft and hard coral, as well as sponges.
- The Parthenon: Located just 40 minutes from dockside, The Trench is a series of spur and grove formations that go as deep as 110 feet. This beautiful dive site comprises a vertical wall overlooking a trench. Overhead there are schools of tropical reef fish and quite often you will spot schools of Atlantic Spade Fish.
- The Pozas: The Pozas, a popular dive site for student training and night dives, is an island reef in a sandy area with a depth of 40 to 55 feet. Formed from a limestone base, this site features rock formations covered in red encrusting sponges and gardens of Gorgonians, Sea Fans, and Barrel Sponges. The white sand base and volcanic lava provide the background for protruding ledges up to 15 feet high.
