Large numbers of geese, ducks, swans, loons (4 species), arctic terns, jaegers, ptarmigan, etc. Also peregrines (many active eyries), gyrfalcons, roughlegs and eagles. Also geese, ducks, swans, 4 species of loons, peregrines, gyrfalcons, roughlegs, eagles, arctic terns, jaegers, ptarmigan, etc. Fair fishing for lake trout and grayling. Special Beginner's Trip on the tundra for people with little or no previous canoeing experience. The emphasis is on remote wilderness camping north of the treeline, hiking in spectacular scenery including along gigantic treed eskers, and limited canoe travel on lakes and gentle rivers (no rapids or portages). Pristine campsites fronted by white sand beaches, swimming that can rival the Caribbean, good fishing for lake trout and excellent opportunities to see muskoxen, caribou, wolves, moose and grizzlies. Caribou often seen daily. Reasonable chance of seeing large herds. Also muskoxen, wolves, moose, black and grizzly bears, geese, eagles, and many other tundra birds. Excellent fishing for grayling. Route follows two smaller rivers through predominantly tundra country close to treeline. Route consists of small to large sized lakes joined by short stretches of river. Virtually 100% flat-water paddling. Some short portages. Very hilly terrain, sandy eskers and beaches. Northern lights. Scattered caribou often seen daily. Also muskoxen, wolves, moose, grizzly, loons, ducks, geese, bald eagles. Good fishing for lake trout and grayling. Guiding-outfitting fees $3055; air charter fees $2040.
