The Lower Canyons trip is the Rio Grande's premier wilderness experience. With 83 miles of federally protected Wild and Scenic River canyons, this rugged and remote area profoundly affects all who are fortunate enough to venture here.
Numerous Class III and IV rapids with adequate water levels, hot and cold springs, pristine camp sites, and many side canyons offers a memorable adventure to travelers who know what "getting away from it all" means. If you're looking for that perfect trip away from day to day city life, come and enjoy seven days or more of some of the most pristine and beautiful scenery in all of Texas.
For those of you with the time, enjoy one fantastic sojourn to see all of the 231 miles of river we offer. Starting in Big Bend Ranch State Park, you'll travel through the volcanically formed Colorado Canyon, the Madera and Fresno Creek Area to Lajitas. From Lajitas we journey into Big Bend National Park starting with Santa Elena Canyon, the Great Unknown, Mariscal Canyon to Rio Grande Village, and on through Boquillas Canyon. You journey ends at Dryden after you navigate the Lower Canyons, part of the Wild and Scenic River Area and the most remote and spectacular wilderness area to be found in North America.
