peru vacation coming

Hi, I'm want to visit peru on my winter vacations it will be summer in peru I think because I'm thinking about traveling the second week of january, well I'm searching information I have a peru tour but I want more info and advice, I have some advice that I should take a tour to cusco and machu picchu and the other cities I can go by my own but machu picchu is so popular that I should have a reservation, that's what the angency also said but what do you think?
