I don't find sunglasses useless. As a matter of fact, I really need some shades in summer, as my eyes are very sensitive to sunlight. The problem I have got with sunglasses is that I always lose them. I left a pair of shades in a restaurant in Greece in July and another pair somewhere in Austria in September. I guess I'm always too preoccupied with the big things, and keep losing the small ones...

LOL! I absolutely agree with you here! I've also had the annoying experience of spending some time during my trips with some lazy butts, who kept whining that they were too exhausted, too thirsty, too hungry or anything else they could think of as I was leading them all across the city. X( I could have seen a lot more if I didn't have to drag them around and listen to all their petulant complaints. Now I know that, unless you manage to find a reliable and fun travel companion, it is best to meander on your own and manage your time as you wish. No more whimpers!!!
Denis.

Quite agree! I always wear sunglasses in bright daylight.B-`
And I can't afford to loose them, as they are made for me, nearsighted with astigmatic lenses and, as if that wasn't enough, the need for reading glasses due to age! But I smashed them once as I lost them on a bank floor in Pretoria - lucky for me it wasn't my normal ones (as I then didn't carry spare glasses - since that experience I do!)8o

hullo everyone ... it's been, what, over a year, i think, since i last dropped by these parts ... been busy with work, travelling, met a lovely lady and got married (while travelling) ... got offered some work (also while travelling) and ended up staying a lot longer than had originally ben planned ...
have been tralling on-and-off since mid-2007, and have thus far followed this route: australia (starting point) -> malaysia -> cambodia -> vietnam -> malaysia -> singapore -> laos -> china -> south korea -> japan -> china -> russia -> kazakstan -> azerbajistan (didn't make it past customs on this one, actually, got an "denied entry" stamp in my passport too, not nice! ... ) -> china -> macau -> tibet -> cambodia -> thailand -> burma -> cambodia (currently working/living here, and still having a great time) ...
let's see ... most useless things i've carried with me so far has got to be my hiking boots ... have been wearing sandals and flip-flops all over, including up and down the mountains in tibet, lol
