What makes Zanzibar so exotic? The Island, which is part of Tanzania, is one of those magical African areas like Timbuktu and Casablanca. Discover the many unique angles and views of this fascinating island with a professional travel photographer by your side on this 14-day learning journey. Every Jan, and Sept. (please enquire for exact dates). The Sept session is: 9th - 22nd.
Explore Stone Town, with its maze of alleyways and colorful street vendors. Visit Dhow Shipbuilders, and learn about village life on the Island. Spice plantations and ancient Sultan’s Palaces await you and your camera. A Swahili-speaking guide, who helps you enjoy unique photographic opportunities when meeting Zanzibari people, accompanies you.
Your Itinerary
Day 1: Clients to arrive at Zanzibar Airport where they will be met by Sama Tours personnel and transported to the hotel in Stone Town. (B).
Day 2: Relax. You will still be tired from your journey and will need time to unwind and acclimatise (believe me!). (B).
Day 3: Exploring the 19th century Arab style Stone Town, which contains many of the Islands palaces and other historical buildings. Highlights include the House of Wonders, the fort, the site of the former slave market and the Central Market where the cosmopolitan blend of Zanzibari culture can be experienced at its most vivid. (B).
Day 4: As day 3. Explore Stown Town. (B).
Day 5: All morning to relax. In the afternoon, we head south to visit the witchcraft area of Mbweni, the church of St.Johns and Mbweni Ruins. (B).
Day 6: A full day to explore the Peace Memorial Museum, Maruhbi Palace, Spice Plantations, Village lunch, Kidichi Persian Baths and finally drinks and a swim at the secluded Mangapwani Beach. (B).
Day 7: We travel East, seeing rural life, Dunga Ruins and the seaweed farms around the small villages of Uroa and Chwaka. (B).
Day 8: Rest day. (B).
Day 9: South, visiting Zala Park to observe snakes and lizards at close quarters and then to the fishing village of Kizimkasi to photograph the ancient Shirazi mosque, with it's inscriptions inside, dating from AD 1107. (B).
Day 10: We head North to experience the amazing Mkotoni Village Fish Market, Fukuchani Ruins, Dhow Ship Builders around Nungwi, and eventually check in, tired and hungry, at the Shooting Star Inn, Hotel and Restaurant, Kiwenga Beach, run by the charming Liz and Elly. (B).
Day 11: Time to unwind! You will have been working hard, so enjoy this tranquil ocean paradise. Fabulous food, intimate atmosphere and a warm friendly service. Plus the option to explore the local environment, if you can drag yourself away from Kiwenga Beach. (B).
Day 12: Free day as above. (B).
Day 13: After lunch, we head back to Stone Town for your final evening, and if we are lucky, shoot Dhows at sunset. We gather for dinner at one of the towns most popular restaurants. (B).
Day 14: Departure day. (B).
