The week begins with adventure: a jeep tour in the Presila Catanzarese, with its varied waterfalls, canyons, and ancient trees with panoramic views stretching to the Gulf of Squillace. There is then the exciting challenge of the Adventure Park “Orme nel Parco”, in the heart of the Sila National Park. The tour then begins the search of sea and history, among the ancient villages and extraordinary beaches of this section of Ionian coast where the colors range from the white of Caminia to the red of the Marinella at the Island of Cape Rizzuto. Here, a few steps from the sea, you can also see the ancient settlements of Skylletion (currently Squillace) and Lacinion (currently Cape Colonna) where today it is possible to admire the remains of temples, squares, theaters, homes, and basilicas from the Greek-Roman era. This is a fascinating and adventurous holiday, among the nature and history of this extraordinary region.
The Casale Cropos is located among the rolling hills a few steps from the ancient town of Cropani. It is a lovely stone house, recently renovated, that faces a breathtaking view of the Gulf of Squillace and is immersed in a splendid olive grove. The structure includes 4 apartments, spread over 2 floors, supplied with kitchenette and private bathroom. The dawn is especially extraordinary in this privileged observation point, a completely unforgettable experience. Make sure to eat breakfast in the shade of the gazebo in the courtyard of the house, facing the gulf.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1, Saturday: Arrival Morning arrival in airport. Retrieve car at auto rental office. Transfer to Cropani and settle into apartment in Casale Cropos. Free afternoon.
Day 2, Sunday: Free day with possibility to visit ancient neighboring towns Free morning. In the afternoon it will be possible to visit the town of Cropani, with its Romanesque Cathedral and the Antiquarium that conserves archeological findings from the area, and Zagarise, with its splendid Church of Assunta and the cylindrical Norman towers.
Day 3, Monday: Full day Jeep tour of Presila At 8.30 presentation of excursion, briefing, pickup of Jeep. At 9.00 beginning of excursion. Skirting the Fegato river, by Jeep, guests visit the Valli Cupe Canyon. Returning in the direction of the town of Sersale, stop and swim in the high gorge of Crocchio. Traditional lunch in agriturismo; excursion to the Waterfall of Campanaro di Zagarise. Visit to Gigante Buono, 400 year old chestnut tree. At 18.30 return to Casale.
Day 4, Thursday: Day at Adventure Park Full day at the Adventure Park “Orme nel Parco”, in the heart of the National Park of Sila, in a beech forest where – among the suspended paths for adults and children – guests can spend the day immersed in nature. It is also possible to use the picnic areas in the park to prepare delicious grilled meals.
Day 5, Wednesday: Between sea, history and archeology Free morning to go to the seaside at the beautiful beach of Caminia. In the afternoon it will be possible to visit the archaeological area at Scolacium that contains the remains of the Greek city of Skylletion, with a theater, square, museum and the Norman Basilica called the Roccelletta.
Day 6, Thursday: Nella Riserva Marina di Isola Capo Rizzuto Free morning to go to the sea at the famous “Le Castella” with the possibility to take a boat excursion in the Marine Reserve at Capo Rizzato. In the afternoon it will be possible to visit the Aragonese Castle and the seafaring village.
Day 7, Friday: Between sea, history and archeology. Free morning to go to the sea near the Marinella of Isola Capo Rizzuto with its beach of pink sand. In the afternoon it will be possible to visit the archaeological sites at Cape Colonna where guests can admire the remains of the Hera Lacinia temple and the on-site museum.
Day 8, Saturday: Free day and return Transfer to the Airport of Lamezia Terme, return of car to auto rental office by 11.00 Return.
