Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: 18 Km. Cerro Negro Volcano, Ojo de Agua Crater
We leave León at 8:00 a.m (40 minutes driving) to the rural community of El 18, from there we walk to the amazing and unique volcano of Nicaragua El Cerro Negro (713 mts) walking distance 9 km. After 2 hrs walking on dirt road we begin to climb up for 1 1/2 hours, we visit one of its active craters, feeling the heat and gases, after that we walk around the volcano and visit the main crater, enjoying amazing panoramic views. Going down we run, jump or just walk on its south east side, which is pure ashes. (15-20 minutes).
At the bottom we walk to the Maribios Interpretative Nature Center (20 minutes) and have lunch (2 hours)
At 2 p.m we go to the El Ojo de Agua Crater (916 mts) located at 2,5 km, 2 hours climbing up. We are in our shelter by 6 p.m. We set up to spend our first night in a rustic mountain shelter in hammocks or tents.
Day 2: Las Pilas and El Hoyo volcanoes
After breakfast we go to the Las Pilas volcano (1089 mts), located at 1,5 km, under the shade of leaves enjoying the glamorous views over the Cerro Negro volcano. Afterwards we’ll go to the El Hoyo volcano (1089 mts), located at 6 km, entering from the north side, walking for about 2 hours, and then having lunch. After resting it is a 4 hours walk to El Hoyo (6 km) volcano. The main crater has 300 mts of diameter and 500 mts deep.
We sleep at the north side of this volcano.
Day 3: Asososca Lagoon
After breakfast we go to the Asososca Lagoon located at 10 km., also known as “El Tigre”, it has warm waters, walking down takes about 5 hrs. There you can swim and enjoy of a delicious lunch; roasted local goat.
Finally we take a 30 minutes walk up of a hill to get our transport.
