Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: We will meet and greet at your place of lodging or at O.R Tambo Airport previously known as Johannesburg International Airport. We travel along the N4 toll road in an Eastern direction from Johannesburg to Nelspruit in Mpumalanga. With a comfortable 6 hours drive a head of us you can stretch your feet and let your guide take care of the traffic and just enjoy the vistas of the Mpumalanga high veldt. Home of numerous coal mines and country living on mainly maize farms.

We will stop for lunch at a restaurant along the way. Once we pass through the NZASM (Nederlands Zuidafrikaanse Spoorwecht Matskapij) Historical tunnel we will feel the humidity increase and the vibe of the Lowveldt area in the Mpumalanga province. The country side will change from rolling grass lands to mountains terrain. Limited industrial activity with mainly cash crop farms dotting the country side till we reach the capitol of Mpumalanga, Nelspruit.

Nelspruit is a mere 65 km from our destination, a Big 5 Private Game Reserve where we will spend our first night. Once we know every one has a place to rest our Bush activity comences. We will depart on an early night drive. Your Night Game Drive & Bush Barbeque Safari starts early afternoon, where your Ranger will greet you at your at the Lodge. The Ranger will welcome you and discuss the night’s activity in full. We will depart on an Open Safari Vehicle for a Night Game Drive & Bush Barbeque Safari in a Private Big 5 Game Reserve. We will look for game till the sun starts to set. At a safe outcrop we will disembark and enjoy sundowners on a safe spot to watch the sun set, sipping on cold beverages until the dusk light forces us to depart and look for more game. The strong beams of the spotlight will open the African bush for us and we will spot different game species with their nocturnal behavior. Spend as much time observing them as needed.Round about 19h00 we will drive into a spot where a roaring fire will welcome you to the traditional Bush Barbeque! Bathed in the flames of flickering torches a scene will light up of set tables with your host around the fire preparing a meal fit for a king! You will watch him prepare your dinner while enjoying a cold beverage. You Ranger will entertain with campfire stories and interpreting the nocturnal sounds till dinnertime. After the scrumptious meal we will linger around the fire until we decide to go to bed one by one. Lions are known to do most of their hunting at night. Who knows we might just encounter a kill! We will not only assist you in spotting the game but also change every sighting into an experience by interpreting the bush and give a detailed explanation of mammal behavior. Our Rangers are experienced and well qualified to share a wealth of knowledge.

Day 2: Your Bush Walking Safari starts very early in the morning, before the crack of dawn. Your Ranger will brief you on trail etiquette while serving piping hot coffee & tea with rusks (biscuits). Pending on the size of the group you will also be accompanied by a second armed Ranger, also known as a Second rifle. In single file, walking softly, with all senses pealed to be alerted of any game movement you will walk through untamed African bush! Every now and then when your Ranger spot something interesting, he will point it out and explain the creature big or small, might it even be one of the big five! You will do regular stops to talk and have a sip of water during the three-hour walk. The weakest member of the party will determine the pace of the walk or the distance to cover. Bruch is served before departure to Maputo, the Capitol of Mozambique. It is only 28km to the border gate where we will clear customs and enter into Mozambique.

Once we arrive in Maputo Mozambique we will visit the Railway station with the solid copper roof section and steel art inside; see the Lady of Conception on the square; go to the old fort, dating from 1769. The Fortaleza (Portuguese for Fort) resembles the fort in Cape Town. We will do a quick visit to the most famous Polana Hotel with art and decor dating from the 1920’s style and look out from the terrace towards the sea to Xefina Island the Mozambique version of Robben Island, now also a disused goal. Lunch is at a local Restaurant for your own account. We will do a visit to the “Casa do Ferro” The house of Steel. Also known as Eiffel House, designed by the same Eiffel who designed the Eiffel Tower Paris; Trichardt Monument and money museum. Lunch is at a local Restaurant for your own acount. Tonight we will sleep on Catemebe at our Lodge and we will have to do a ferry crossing in order to get the lodge on the other side of the bay. After supper it is leisure time, take a walk along the sea shore or play house games.

This is our last day in Maputo, Capitol of Mozambique. We will have breakfast and depart from Catembe, Maputo to Bela Vista on sandy roads past the Elephant Park over Zitundu to Ponta Du Oura. At Ponta Du Pouro we will check into a camp site. Lunch will be for your own acount at a restaurant that is famous in the area for its seafood, the Fish Monger. The rest of the day is spend at leisure on the beach. There are many activities that you can participate in like Horse riding, Qaud Biking, Snorkeling, Scuba Diving and Ski-Boat Fishing. All these activities are for your own account.

Day 4: Today we will swim with Dolphins. A very early start with cofee & tee with rusks to dunk (biscuits) before we are off to the shore to depart by boat in search of Dolphins. Once located we can snorkel with the Dolphins or just watch them from the boat. Scuba Adventures is the operator on this activity: The frequency of Dolphin sightings in the bay and adjacent coastline, allows us to conduct snorkeling trips to enable non-divers to experience the magic of swimming with these gentle creatures.

One or two large schools seem to be resident in the area, and have become accustomed to swimming with snorkel divers - a truly unforgettable experience. One also does not need to snorkel with them - viewing from the boat is just as thrilling! Dolphin trips are conducted early mornings each day, subject to demand. (Minimum of 4 persons) Harmless Whale Sharks are also often encountered on these trips. The month of February is great for mantas, Dolphins are sighted year around whilst whale sharks are in abundance from November to February.

We will return from the sea and have a scrumptious brunch. This is the time that we will depart as friends. Please advise our booking office shouldwish to return to Nelspruit Mpumalanga or to continue with your tour through Zulu Land in Northern Kwazulu-Natal with African Wanderer Tours us.

Options: This tour can be booked that the starting point is either at any one of the following places: Kosi Bay Border Post in Northern Kwazulu-Natal, Nelspruit in Mpumalanga or Johannesburg in Gauteng. The order in which the activities are presented will be in reverse order. Tours can be extended with us into Kruger National Park as accommodated safaris (sleeping in huts) with dedicated Open Safri Vehicles and Rangers or in our tented camp in Kruger National Park. We also do tailor made itineraries.
