Tour Itinerary:
Day 1 – Your Vacation Begins – Arrival in Vancouver
You can’t help but begin to unwind as soon as you arrive in the west coast city of Vancouver. Surrounded by mountains and ocean, the air is fresh, the ambiance cool, and the residents are friendly. This is the city where Greenpeace started, where bears roam into backyards, and where coyotes sometimes wander across the golf course in Stanley Park. Explore the city, stopping at a sidewalk café to watch the world go by.
Day 2 – On the Rocky Mountaineer – Vancouver to Kamloops
A lonesome wail sounds from the train’s whistle and the smell of breakfast wafts through your car as the Rocky Mountaineer rolls out of Vancouver and enters the lush farmland of the Fraser Valley. Over coffee you can chat with old friends and new, but mostly you can’t help staring out the train’s window at Canada’s scenery – which is some of the most spectacular in the world. Step onto the outdoor viewing platform to feel the breeze on your face. Later the train climbs through the Fraser Canyon, past the thundering water at Hell’s Gate, to the high desert of British Columbia’s interior. Early in the evening, after a day of good food, great company, and awe-inspiring scenery, the Rocky Mountaineer arrives in Kamloops where you have a good night’s rest.
Day 3 – On the Rocky Mountaineer – into the Canadian Rocky Mountains
This morning return to your home on the rails – the Rocky Mountaineer. This is the day you’ve been waiting for – the day you reach the breathtaking Canadian Rockies. From the onboard guide you learn about the important history of the Canadian railroad and the colorful characters who built it - all the while keeping your eyes peeled for bears, elk and other mountain residents. Your ride through the Spiral Tunnels is the highlight – ascending slowly, round and round through the darkness, you suddenly emerge to find yourself high in the mountains, surrounded by mighty peaks topped with snow. In the late afternoon the Rocky Mountaineer arrives in Banff. Breathe deep and feel the mountains’ serene embrace as you begin your stay in the Canadian Rockies.
Day 4 – In the Canadian Rockies – Explore Banff
Now that the Canadian Rockies train has brought you into the mountains, it’s time to get outside, explore, and see why the population of Banff doubles during the summer months. A guided tour lets you relax in comfort as you visit four local mountains and learn how natural phenomena have made Banff into the outdoor paradise it is today. A gondola ride to the summit of Sulphur Mountain gives you a panoramic view of Bow Valley - the mountains surround you on all sides as you gaze upon the pristine wilderness below, with the river glistening in the distance. Now, you understand the sense of peace that keeps people returning to Banff year after year.
Day 5 – Deeper into the Canadian Rockies – Banff to Lake Louise
Picture the clearest glacier water you can imagine, and then frame this water with some of the most majestic mountains in the world – Lake Louise is like nothing else. Stroll along the lakeshore, learn about local wildlife, or relax on a bench and enjoy the view. The water is so pure that you want to jump right in, but renting a canoe and going for a paddle will be the warmer option! Lake Louise moves at the unrushed pace you have become used to this week - which makes your last night in the Rockies the most precious of them all.
Day 6 – Far too Soon - Lake Louise to Calgary Airport
Filled with memories of your Canadian Rockies rail trip and the Rocky Mountains, you bid farewell to the Rockies today and gradually descend through the foothills by luxury motorcoach, arriving in Calgary in time for your flight.
