This is the biggest event of the year, concentrating on three main sports, wrestling, archery and horse riding. The festival is held all the over the country, normally between the 11th and 13th July. After months of enduring a bitter winter, the Mongolian people celebrate with traditional food, dance and singing. Relive Genghis Khan’s glory days by grabbing a horse, camel or even a Yak for a truly breathtaking experience.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Ulaan Baatar. International arrivals are met and transferred to the hotel for a welcome dinner and three-night stay. Free time for exploring the capital city of Mongolia.
Day 2: Ulaan Baatar. Full day at Ulaan Baatar’s Naadam Festival. Today’s activities include the Opening Ceremony, archery, wrestling and horseback riding.
Day 3: Ulaan Baatar. Half day at the Naadam Festival, including the Closing Ceremony. City tour including the Gandam Monastery and National Museum.
Day 4: Ulaan Baatar, Gorkhi-Terelj National Park. A day to enjoy the magnificent alpine scenery of Terelj, with opportunities for hiking and horse riding in the 300,000 hectare Gorkhi-Terelj National Park. Alternatively, a free day in Ulaan Baatar with opportunities for cashmere shopping. Evening departure of our private Trans-Siberian Express train.
Day 5: Ulan Ude. Morning getting settled in on board, enjoying the comfort, space and service found on our exclusive Trans-Siberian Express. Crossing the border into Russia we arrive in Ulan Ude, capital of the Buryat Republic. Our city tour here includes a visit to the colourful Buddhist Temple at nearby Ivolginsk and the Village of Old Believers.
Day 6: Lake Baikal. A spectacular part of the journey, today is spentwinding our way through tunnels and along cliff faces on the Port Baikal branch on the shoreline of the world’s largest freshwater lake, Lake Baikal. Enroute we stop for a barbeque lunch (weather permitting), and then board a hydrofoil which takes us across the lake to the village of Listvyanka. Our tour of this lakeside town, nestled into the surrounding foothills, includes the Limnological Institute.
Day 7: Irkutsk. Morning arrival in Irkutsk, known as the ‘Paris of Siberia’. We spend the day visiting the major sights and museums, viewing the classic Siberian wooden architecture. Opportunity for free time in the afternoon.
Day 8: Abakan. Heading west through the beautiful landscape of the Sayan Mountains, stopping in Abakan. you have a full day on the train to enjoy the relaxed pace of life on our ‘hotel on wheels’.
Day 9: Novosibirsk. A stopover in Novosibirsk, where we visit the Opera House, Lenin Square and the Ob River, which flows 3,500 miles from its source to the Arctic.
Day 10: Yekaterinburg. Yekaterinburg, last city in Asia and capital of the Urals. Our town tour includes the Romanov execution site and the Urals Mineralogical Museum. Shortly after departure we cross the Europe/Asia divide.
Day 11: Kazan. We spend the day in Kazan, the beautiful capital of Tatarstan on Volga river.
Day 12: Moscow. Morning arrival in Moscow. Full day tour including Red Square and the Kremlin. We have our final farewell dinner and stay overnight in the five-star Baltschug Kempinski Hotel.
Day 13: Moscow. After a sumptuous breakfast in the hotel, free time in the rapidly-changing Russian capital brings our tour to an end. Airport transfers provided to connect with afternoon flight departures.
