The Spanish Conquistadores were the first to discover them as they headed back home from the New World with ships filled with gold. Later, some of the infamous "Pirates of the Caribbean" lived and died here. Decades down the road, such American "Legends" as Ernest Hemingway and John James Audoban called it home and produced some of their greatest works here. In the 40's, Harry Truman wanted to move the White House here. Finally, Jimmy Buffet penned many of his greatest songs here.
