Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrive in the colonial port city of Veracruz. You’ll be met by Andrew, Anna and the friendly, highly experienced staff of Esprit Rafting. We’ll stay overnight at the Hotel Imperial, one of the oldest hotels in Veracruz, situated right in the heart of the Zocalo, where we can sit, have a few Coronas and enjoy the nightlife.

Day 2: After breakfast we’ll head out of town through the foothills of the enchanting Sierra Madre Orientales, to the village of Jalcomulco. This small village, situated in the heart of the Antigua river valley, has lots of local flavor to share! We’ll get everyone settled at Aventuras Sin Limites, a local, family-owned rafting base camp. We’ll get everyone outfitted in boats, eat some lunch, and head out for our first river run on the class 2-3 section of the Antigua River! This section of river will be a great warm-up for the coming week! After our run, we return to Jalcomulco to relax and partake in some delicious Mexican food complimented by cold cerveza.

Day 3: Day three begins with a traditional Mexican breakfast and then it’s off to the Actopan. The Actopan is a spring-born river with crystal clear aquamarine water. The first rapid is a 25 ft waterfall/slide that anyone can run! It’s true! If you’ve never run a waterfall before, this is the place to do it! The rest of the river is class 2-3 with striking scenery. We finish the trip at a restaurant that serves incredible meals!

Day 4: This morning we get an early start for a 3 day overnight trip on the Barranca-Grande River. The Barranca-Grande is one of the crown jewels of Mexico. Day one features continuous, fun, and technical class III-IV rapids flowing through a spectacular canyon lined with tropical foliage. The trip is raft supported so there is the option to raft if anyone chooses. Tonight we experience more local culture at our camp in Amititla, a small, typical coffee station high in the Sierra Madre. Margaritas on the house tonight!

Day 5: After breakfast we head out on day 2 of our Barranca Grande adventure! You guessed it, more great rapids and scenery. Tonight we pull over at Monte Blanco, a picturesque camp, to stay the night.

Day 6: This will be the final day of our three day trip. The river’s name changes from Barranca Grande to the Pescados. The Pescados is a beautiful class 3-4 section of river that runs through a scenic gorge, home to exotic birds and vegetation. This river is known for its sharp corners and fun rapids! The take-out bridge in Jalcomulco marks the end of our three day adventure. This afternoon we’ll have a chance to do a short hike through mango trees, up an enchanted canyon to a natural swimming hole where we can splash around! Tonight we get to experience a very special native tradition called a Temascal. The Temascal is the Aztec version of a Native Sweat Lodge. The Temascal is a truly unique and relaxing experience.

Day 7: It’s an early start this morning to get to the grand finale of the trip, the Tomata River. This river is a kayaker’s dream with plenty of teacup style waterfalls for everyone. It’s the ultimate river playpark! After the river we stop into Xalapa for a quick shop in the artesian alley Calle Diamante on our way to Veracruz. Tonight we enjoy some Veracruz nightlife in the Zocalo.

Day 8: Depart for Veracruz airport to say our farewells.
