Arrival Day Accommodation in Castle Douglas.
Day 1 Urr Valley and Solway Coast - 34 miles. Passing through a designated National Scenic Area cycle the breath taking Urr Valley where the King of Scotland used to 'bide'. Viewing the scenery that Robert the Bruce would have look out over. Then it's on past rugged coastlines and back to the same accommodation at night.
Day 2 Castle Douglas to Gatehouse of Fleet 26 miles with an extra 6 miles loop option at end. Another part coastal route. Using some of the National Cycle Route you pass through the town of Kirkcudbright and into another National Scenic Area the Fleet Valley. Accommodation in Gatehouse of Fleet.
Day 3 Gatehouse of Fleet to Newton Stewart 20 miles with extra cycling available at Kirroughtree mountain biking centre which you pass beside on your route. You rise into the hills on a quiet road today with great views of rocky crags and a viaduct. A nature reserve and visitor attractions are along the way. Accommodation in Newton Stewart market town.
Day 4 Tour of Machars Area A mainly flat peninsula with various tour distance options from 22 up to 51 miles to the Isle of Whithorn. This allows you to have a mid tour rest day/half day if you wish. Wigtown book town, Bladnoch whisky distillery and several other attractions. Same accommodation in Newton Stewart.
Day 5 Tour to Glentrool 31 miles. Again into the hills to Scottish Highlands type terrain to the scenic area beside Loch Trool. A peaceful day returning by the side of the River Cree. Same accommodation in Newton Stewart.
Day 6 Newton Stewart to The Glenkens. 20 miles with extra miles options. You pass through a popular tourist route with picturesque scenery including a wild goat park, red deer range and a loch with forestry visitor centre. There are 3 communities in the Glenkens area and you could visit them all to cover another 10 extra miles on your way to your accommodation.
Day 7 The Glenkens to Castle Douglas. 20 miles with extra miles options. Another scenic route to end you tour. Depart You follow the banks of Loch Ken for part of the way and follow the Galloway Kite Trail. Extra night accommodation available in Castle Douglas.
