The tour’s route: total 1500 km, 165 per day. Roads are wide, paved and bumpy, very little, but slow traffic. Rest days: 9 driving days, 2 rest days, 3 days in Havana, 2 arrival/departure days. Your motorcycle will be shipped in a container from Denmark 6 weeks in advance of your departure and return to Denmark appr. 4 weeks after your return. Freight is included in the price if the tour.
Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Departure from Copenhagen and arrival in Havana 18:45 with Air France. Transfer to hotel.
Day 2: Welcome tot Havana, one of the world's most fascinating cities. We collect our motorcycles.
Day 3: Havanna - Las Terrazas, 100 km
After breakfast, morning in town and a good lunch we leave Havana. Our first day on the motorcycles is short and easy. West of Havanna we reach the nature-reserve Las Terrazas and one of Cuba's most original hotels La Moka, where we will stay.
Day 4: Las Terrazas - Vinales, 200 km
After breakfast we curve through tree- and palm-covered mountains along the north coast of Cuba to Vinales, one of Cuba's most famous spots with the strange suger-lump-shaped mountains. Our hotel has a splendid view of the valley. Afternoon at leisure. You can explore the unique nature of Vinales on your motorcycle, you can row on the subterranean lake of the "Indian Cave" or shop for souvenirs in Vinales.
Day 5: Vinales - Matanzas, 250 km
After an early breakfast we ride the curvy road downhill to Pinar del Rio, tobacco-capital of Cuba. We visit one of the famous cigar factories, where everything is made by hand. From Pinar del Rio we get a taste of real Cuban countryside, far removed from tourist-Cuba. Villages and collective-farms and roads with no traffic save for a few horses. Our goal for the day is Matanzas, a big, historical town on the North coast.
Day 6: Matanzas - Playa Giron (Bay of Pigs), 170 km. From Matanzas we cross Cuba from North to South, passing huge orange-farms, flat cattle-land and small towns. At mid-day we pause in the swamps near Bay of Pigs, where CIA-trained exile-cubans in 1961 tried to invade Cuba, but were defeated in two days. We eat lunch at a croccodile farm. Our hotel at Bay of Pigs has a beach.
Day 7: Playa Giron - Cienfuegos, 100 km
We cross the vast swamps and drive through cowboy-land to the big city Cienfuegos for lunch. The Cubans call Cienfuegos "The Pearl of the South" and with its beautyful setting at a large tranquil bay it is a favourite of many visitors. Afternoon free. You may visit the famous Delfinarium. Diner at our hotel.
Day 8: Cienfuegos - Trinidad, 95 km
After breakfast we move along the coast to the East. The Escambray mountains rise in front of us. With the blue sea as back-drop we arrive early afternoon to the best preserved of Cubas many historical towns - Trinidad.
Day 9: Trinidad, rest day
You may explore the beautiful town by foot, drive 15 km to a gorgeous beach, or sit next to the church and listen to some of Cuba's best son and salsa bands, sippin' a mojito. You choose your favorite restaurant for dinner.
Day 10: Trinidad - Cayo Santa Maria, 210 km
We climb the steep Escambray mountains, one of the highlights of the tour. Small roads lead us to Remedios, and old quiet town. Lunch and then another highlight. 50 km straight out into the shallow, turqoise sea to Cayo Santa Maria where you will be pampered and can soak up the best the Caribbean has to offer.
Day 11: Cayo Santa Maria, rest day
Cayo Santa Maria has all you could dream of, you just have to enjoy life. All you can eat, drink and enjoy is free.
Day 12: Cayo Santa Maria - Santa Clara, 115 km
We drive back across the sea, now with the blue mountans of the mainland in front of us. We visit a sugar factory, preserved as a museum. and end the day in the big town of Santa Clara.
Day 13: Santa Clara - Havanna, 270 km
In the morning we visit the famous Che-museum in Santa Clara. Endless fields of sugarcane and oranges, and small towns are some of what we will see on our way back to Havana.
Day 14: Havana, rest day
We deliver our motorbikes to the shipping company. rest of the day free to shopping and sight-seeing in the colourful and fascinating Old Havana. You choose your own restaurant, fx. one of Havana's famous private "paladares".
Day 15: Departure Havana
Time to see more of Havana, buy some souvenirs, stroll on the Malecon enjoying the weather before returning to European winter. Transfer to Havana Jose Marti Airport.
Day 16: Arrival Copenhagen via Paris with Air France 15:50
