Our trip begins in Portland. Plan on early to mid-morning arrival to Portland and an afternoon/evening at Crown Point for an overlook of the Columbia River and a great vantage point for sunset. The following morning we head to Washington Park and the Portland Japanese Garden (An optional commercial license fee of $150 is is charged by the garden for those wishing to use images of the garden for commercial purposes. For more information, please go Here). We'll spend the day from 10am - 4pm at this location. The Garden is a beautiful place to photograph and many flowers will be in bloom, including cherry, forsythia, azalia, magnolia, and more. The pace at the Portland Japanese Garden is relaxed, giving you time to study the area and find your compositional stride. This pace will be reflected throughout the trip. The International Rose Test Garden is directly across the street, if you would like to spend some time there as well (admission to the Rose Garden is an optional expense).
The next two days will be exploring the famous Columbia River Gorge waterfalls and trails. Names like Multnomah, Latourell, Horsetail, and Oneonta capture the history of the Columbia River Gorge, and their beauty is awe inspiring. The waterfalls are fairly close to one another, so we will likely stop multiple times at each, depending upon the conditions and time available. We will photograph at least 2 - 3 waterfalls per day with some rainforest trail hiking as well.
We will be shooting during all times of the day with plenty of time to explore and find hidden gems. There will be some hiking on easy to moderately steep trails. The trails are well-maintained, but there are some steep and rugged sections with exposed roots and wet rocks. You should be able to negotiate these conditions to get the maximum benefit from this trip.
