The unique Ngorongoro Crater phenomenon must be seen to be believed. The crater, a collapsed volcanic caldera, covers 250 sq.km and is 611 m deep. Large numbers of carnivores, herbivores, primates and birds are seen year round. It also boasts one of the last viable populations of the nearly extinct black rhinoceros and the highest density of lions and spotted hyena's.
The famous Serengeti encompasses nearly 15,000 sq.km and is unrivaled anywhere for its seasonally shifting concentrations of herbivores. Nearly 1.5 million wildebeest, 500,000 gazelle and 250,000 zebra complete a cyclical annual migration within the ecosystem, followed by large predators.
Ol Doinyo Lengaiis a still active volcano of 2878m above sea level. Geysers, steam and black liquid lava is seen most of the time. The Masai tribe is probably the most interesting tribe in East Africa. These proud people refuse to give up their own traditions. The tribe occupies a territory covering vast areas in southern Kenya and northern Tanzania. They are nomadic herdsmen and warriors, feared by neighboring tribes.
