We entice you to try to harvest the salt as the inhabitants of Celestun still do and in the same manner and using the same techniques as Mayan people used to long ago. Salt is a precious mineral in the whole world, but in Mayan times it was as valuable as pure gold. Salt was used in the kitchen, but also to preserve food.
Following the former road to Sisal and bordering the salt flats, 18 km away from the hotel, we will arrive to the most important spot of the Gulf: “El Palmar”. This lighthouse provides orientation to vessels and fishermen that find and identify their location on dark, cloudy days.
Your Itinerary
