Ocracoke Island is the ultimate destination. The island is 16 miles long, 14 of which are protected as part of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The only developed part is the picture postcard village around the harbor on the southern end. Reachable only by boat and private plane, Ocracoke is worth the effort of getting there. The famous picturesque lighthouses of the North Carolina seashore complete our adventure in the historic islands haunted by Blackbeard’s legend!

Our lodging is Inlet Inn in Beaufort overlooking the waterfront, and The Castle on Silver Lake in Ocracoke, a rambling harborfront inn that is luxurious while still keeping the spirit of Old Ocracoke.

Your Itinerary

Day 1: We meet in the historic town of Beaufort, NC at Inlet Inn in the heart of the walkable historic district. Multible activity options are available, from a water taxi to nearby Cape Lookout, to a guided walking tour of the historic district and "Old Burying Ground," to strolling the waterfront boardwalk. We'll all rendezvous for our group orientation over wine & cheese prior to walking to a spectacular local restaurant. (D)

Day 2: After a bountiful breakfast, we'll bike past tiny coastal fishing communities of the Carteret County peninsula, and through the Cedar Island National Wildlife Refuge to the first ferry of the tour. This 2 hour trip transports us across Pamlico Sound as we relax over a catered lunch. We land in the quirky fishing village of Ocracoke. A local guide will lead us on a scenic and informative kayak tour of Ocracoke's beautiful harbor and creeks. You may also choose to walk the smooth white sand beaches, or simply stroll the village streets to the island lighthouse. Over wine & cheese, we'll watch the sunset from the rooftop deck of the Castle on Silver Lake, our inn for two nights. Afterwards, we'll walk to The Backporch, our favorite Ocracoke restaurant. (B) (L) (D)

Day 3: We will bike to the other end of Ocracoke Island, paying a visit to the island's wild ponies along the way. A short ferry will take us across Hatteras Inlet to Hatteras Island, where we will resume biking, on our way to the famous Hatteras Lighthouse, the tallest brick lighthouse in the US. After you climb the lighthouse steps for the breathtaking view, you will find a catered lunch waiting for you a nearby picnic tables. We'll bike back to Ocracoke Village to enjoy another sunset. (B) (L)

Day 4: Rising early, we'll catch the first ferry off the island, on which we'll enjoy a catered breakfast. Upon reaching the mainland, we'll cycle through salt marshes and coastal villages prior to returning to Beaufort. One last lunch is provided, as are hot showers prior to saying goodbye. (B) (L)
