La Goutte D'Or (A Drop of Gold) is a charming 19th-century "maison de village", tucked away off a quiet leafy lane in the tranquil Provence village of Maillane, just minutes away from St. Remy de Provence and Avignon. The village bakery, cafés and grocery are just steps away. The house sports a sunny yellow facade with sea green shutters. Outside there is a stone-tiled courtyard with a small swimming pool and an arbored dining area.
The courtyard has pretty flower pots and plenty of outdoor lounging and dining furniture, as well as a Weber gas barbecue. Inside, the three-story house has been beautifully renovated and features antique painted tile, terracotta tile and hardwood floors, beamed ceilings, exposed stone and pastel walls. The handsome decor includes a combination of casual contemporary furnishings and French country antique pieces.
Bedroom and Bathroom Description: All of the bedrooms are decorated with pretty bed covers and accent pillows and have retained traditional architectural features. On the second floor are a bedroom with a queen bed and another with a double bed. Stairs lead to the second and third floors where there are 4 bedrooms. A bedroom with twin beds and one with two double beds are on the third floor. The house has three bathrooms, all newly remodeled with the finest fixtures and ceramics.
On the second floor are two bathrooms side by side. One has an American-style tub with shower, pedestal sink, antique painted tile floor and separate toilet facilities. Next door is a bathroom with "rain" shower, a sink set in an antique table and a toilet. The other bathroom is on the ground floor behind the kitchen and includes a large stone-tiled shower with "rain" shower head, a pedestal sink and toilet. Additional separate toilet facilities are adjacent.

Entry is into the living room with upholstered love seats and armchairs grouped around a dark wood coffee table by the stone fireplace. A colorful rug, bookshelves, exposed stone and beam work accent this inviting room. Adjacent, an archway leads to a den with another sofa and armchairs. Colorful rugs, pillows and artwork make this a cozy and comfortable retreat. And you can enjoy DVDs on the flat-screen television. Beyond the den, a door leads to the newly remodeled country kitchen and dining room. Cooks of all persuasions will enjoy its state-of-the-art amenities including a stainless steel refrigerator, a professional-level gas stove, a full array of pots, pans and utensils and ample preparation space.
The colorful tiled back splash features authentic Provençal painted tiles with a rare flower and leaf pattern. A six-foot long wood counter serves as a bar. There are stools tucked below, the perfect spot for observing the cooks. The bar also separates the kitchen from the dining room with antique country table and chairs for 8 people. An archway with lovely French doors opens to the outdoor courtyard and pool.

The famous market town of St Remy de Provence, immortalized by Van Gogh in his paintings and now the Provençal playground of European celebrities and royalty, is just a few minutes away, and the area's many cultural highlights are all close by.
