While visiting M12025, each guest has a horse of his or her own, chosen after careful assessment of riding experience and skill. We are very proud of our string of horses, and look forward to you enjoying them as we do. We are fortunate to have a wide variety of riding opportunities including forest trails and open meadows. If your goals for riding include improving your skills, we will be happy to provide instruction, under the supervision of our American Association of Horsemanship Safety certified Head Wrangler. Smaller kids ride with our Children’s Wrangler.
Another highlight of a summer week at M12025 is the white water rafting trip with Rocky Mountain Adventures. This is a lunch trip for those 13 and older, and a fun but shorter trip for the younger buckaroos (and those adults who prefer the less challenging adventure). You will see in the brochure that there are lots of other activities here; hiking, off-road jeep trips, fishing (rainbow, brown and cutthroat), professional massage and Jacuzzi, or just enjoying a book on a sunny porch. This year we are continuing an afternoon of rock climbing lessons for those who want to learn about bouldering and mountain climbing! Also this summer we are adding Trap Shooting to our riflery program, and an opportunity for golfers to enjoy 18 holes at a neighboring resort country club only minutes away.
Making new friends, making memories that will last a lifetime!
Property amenities:
Size is important to our philosophy. We provide a rocky mountain ranch vacation with all of the amenities that you expect, but without the big resort atmosphere - this is our home! Our cabins and lodge suites are all family sized and professionally decorated. Each suite is unique, but all have refrigerators, coffee service, and full private bath amenities. Our staff is enthusiastic and takes pride in being flexible and sensitive to your family's vacation needs.
The food at Sundance is home cooked, western style, plentiful, with a view to healthy choices. We eat many of our meals family style in the dining room, but also serve several lunches picnic style on the trail. The breakfast ride on a crisp, clear morning is a favorite.
Location:
We are 100 miles from Denver International Airport - only 2 hours away, yet lost in the quiet beauty of the mountains!
Policy:
Deposits: We require a deposit of 20% for dude ranch and bed/breakfast reservations, and 50% for family reunions or other larger groups. In the event of a cancellation, your deposit can be refunded (less 10% handling fee) if your space is rebooked; otherwise it may be applied to a later stay.
Gratuities: We are often asked by guests about how gratuities should be handled. This can be an uncomfortable topic - this note is to help you be informed, but not feel pressured. If you feel you have received exceptional service, you may show your appreciation by leaving a tip for our staff. Unless you specify differently, tips are divided equally among the staff. As a guideline, many guests leave a fifteen percent tip; however gratuities are left entirely at your discretion.
Gift Certificates are available and can be purchased by phone with your credit card!
Group Gatherings: If you are planning a business or church conference, retreat, seminar, family reunion, wedding, or other gathering, you may reserve the entire ranch for your gathering exclusively. Call us!
Children’s Riding; To ride in the National Forest, kids must be able to safely control their horse on the trail. Our wrangler will assess your child’s size (leg length must be long enough to maintain balance and to communicate with the horse), coordination (demonstrate right from left without hesitation, move arms and legs independently), and attitude (understand the differences between toys and animals, demonstrate adequate frustration tolerance, “take charge” attitude). Children who are not yet ready to trail ride will have horse fun in the arena, & trail meals by jeep.
Pets are welcome.
Ours is a non-smoking ranch.
